Young & Aumangea

Aumangea means resilience in Māori and Mason reckons he’s one of the most resilient people you will ever meet.

Most people who dive into a shallow pool and break their neck never walk again. Maraea Kennedy-Tenali did – and during her process of recovery, realised she had to change gender to live a fully authentic life.

Five years on from the neck injury we follow Mason (previously Maraea) as he deals with life as a young Māori transgender man waiting for breast removal surgery.
